From Phoenix, AZ to Rocky Point, Mexico – A Christmas Celebration

Christmas Party in Rocky Point, Mexico

Jose & Mariana making new friends at the 2007 Christmas Party

Every year the Association for International Ministries (AIM) organizes a Christmas party in Rocky Point, Mexico. It is a fun and exciting event with lots of games and activities for the whole family.

AIM is a local non-profit organization that focus on (1) spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, and (2) serving the less fortunate throughout the World. Every month AIM organizes a team of volunteers that travel South of the border to Rocky Point (a.k.a. Puerto Penasco) for an action-packed weekend of service. AIM volunteers build houses, distribute food, provide medical and dental assistance, and minister to some of the poorest communities in Rocky Point.

Once a year, in December, AIM organizes a huge Christmas celebration. More than 100 volunteers bring hundreds of Christmas gifts to distribute among local children during the event. For some of the children those are the only gifts they will receive for Christmas.

The group will leave Phoenix on Friday afternoon, December 10th and come back on Sunday morning or after lunch on December 12th. The Christmas party will be on Saturday evening, December 11th. The group will spend Saturday planning and organizing the party. Volunteers will help with a puppet show, setup the games and activities, wrap gifts, assemble bikes, cook the food, etc. During the actual party, volunteers will help organize the crowd, serve the food, distribute the gifts, and run the games.

My family and I attended the event three years ago and we were very blessed and touched by it. We had an awesome time and our daughter had first-hand experience with what a true Christmas should be. We didn’t go the last two years because of work-related commitments that didn’t allow us to leave Phoenix for the weekend. We are planning to go again this year and have already reserved the dates in our calendar. This will be our son’s first time volunteering during the Christmas celebration. I am looking forward to building this memory with him.

Although AIM is a Christian non-profit organization, the event is open to anyone with a serving heart. It is an amazing experience that you will remember for the last of your life. And as an additional perk, AIM reserves several beach houses in a private, upscale condominium to lodge the volunteers.

If you are planning to go, please reserve your spot early as they are filled quickly. Don’t wait until December to confirm your attendance.

And as a gift to you, if you decide to join us this year you will get a 10% discount off the trip fee. Just present the below coupon when you reserve your place.

@ high school – thank you for the comment and nice words. I don’t do anything special to get listed in Yahoo News or any other site. Just write about what you like/know and be consistent (write often). Good luck!

@ Leatha – I can relate to your problem with procrastination. For me it works to start small – instead of thinking about all the big things I need to do, I try to focus on the smaller tasks that will help me do the big ones… It works for me… Good luck!
